Louis + Melissa | French Quarter | New Orleans, LA
Getting to travel to photograph my clients’ weddings and other special events is an awesome part of this job. When Melissa called me up to photograph her destination wedding in New Orleans, I was beyond excited. I spent the morning of Louis + Melissa’s wedding wandering downtown to get some scene-setting shots. (Oh, and this was not for the faint of heart. New Orleans is muggy, y’all! I hadn’t been since my early 20’s, and I did not recall the humidity. Ohhhh the humidity.)
Melissa and Louis got ready in separate suites in the Westin (Canal Place) before heading downstairs for their first look. From there, it was a whirlwind. We all got stuck in traffic on the way to their ceremony at Hermann-Grima House but fortunately we made it with time to spare on their requested group photos. Then it was time for their beautiful ceremony before heading off with the second line. This was a photojournalist’s dream – getting to document the wedding party, family and friends, a brass band, a police escort, and French Quarter spectators as we paraded around the block. I shared quite a few images below from that part of the day, because it was my FAVORITE. Anyone else getting married in New Orleans? I’ll be your expert New Orleans wedding photographer. Right here. Just call this girl. Yup.
Louis + Melissa’s reception was nothing short of F-U-N fun. Everyone had a great time dancing it up, especially when Henry and the Invisibles took the stage. This band is near and dear to the newlywed’s heart. They attended many of his shows at Rebar in San Antonio when they lived in town.
Before the night was over, Melissa incorporated another New Orleans tradition – cake pulls! All of her bridesmaids crowded around the cake and each pulled one ribbon from the cake. Tied to the end of each ribbon was a charm with a special meaning.
As the couple departed their reception, guests held sparklers high and began a “Go Spurs Go” chant as the newlyweds entered their pedicab. I could not help but have a huge grin on my face photographing this moment of joy and celebration – and San Antonio flavor in the midst of French Quarter chaos.
Congratulations again, Louis + Melissa, and thank you for inviting me to tell the story of your wedding day!
